MAST OF FAMOUS SHIP TO ADORN VICTORIA PARK

The mast of the first steamship that rounded Cape Horn is to be set up in Stanley park, Victoria, B. C, by the Hudson Bay company. The mast was one of the spars of the steamship Beaver, which was built at Blackwell-on-the-Thames, England, in 1835. King William IV presided at the launching and the vessel was the first power propelled craft to come around Cape Horn. The Beaver sank off Prospect point, Vancouver island, July 26, 1888.
