1844      
Wed. Dec. 11 At 11 a.m. the Pilot, M Bennett came on board in Shadwell Basin. Took a steam tug and proceeded down the river. At 6 p.m. came to with the last bend in Gravesend reach.
       
Thurs. Dec. 12 At 3 p.m. the Captain, Boyes, came on board. At 5 p.m. came to in 8 fathoms.
       
Fri. Dec. 13 At 8 a.m. weighed anchor and proceeded down the river. At noon came to in Sea Reach.
       
Sat. Dec. 14 At 6 a.m. weighed with a fresh breeze, plying to windward. At Noon came to Anchor at the Nore. At 4 p.m. weighed with a light breeze from E.S.E. At 9 p.m. came to anchor. Mouse Light bearing N.W. by N.
       
Sun. Dec. 15 At 4 .m. weighed anchor and proceeded with all possible sail. N.B. This day ends at noon (and has only 12 hours) to commence the Sea Log. (Merchant vessels after they dismiss the Pilot begin the day at noon, they are thus half a day in advance of the Civil time. Thus at Noon on this Sunday Dec. 15 the Rosalie's Monday, Dec. 16th began.
       
Mon. Dec. 16 At 7 p.m. the North Foreland bore N.N.W. distant 3 miles. At 8 p.m. discharged the Pilot. The S. Foreland bore W. distant 4 miles.
       
Tues. Dec. 17 ... p.m. St Catherine's Light bore N.E. by N. distant 4 leagues. At 6 a.m. the Start Light bore N. by W. distant 5 leagues.
       
Wed. Dec. 18 At 2 a.m. the Lizard Light bore N.E. by N. distant 5 leagues. Lat. by Obser. 49 48' N.
       
Thurs. Dec. 19 Spoke the Brig Albyn from Callao to Falmouth. Lat 48 37' N.
       
Fri. Dec. 20 Increasing Breezes.
       
Sat. Dec. 21 Brisk Breezes Lat. by Obser. 46 48' N.
       
Sun. Dec. 22 Moderate and fair.
       
Mon. Dec. 23 Increasing Breezes Sun obscure.
       
Tues. Dec. 24 Strong gales with heavy sea running. At 8 p.m. wind veered suddenly to N.W. Carried away the jib boom and T.T.G. mast. People employed in clearing the wreck.

Thurs. Jan. 2 At 4 p.m. saw land, the Canary Islands, bearing S. distant 6 leagues. Midnight Point Nagibore? N.N.W. distant 3 miles. At 4 a.m. came to and at daylight made sail, Santa Cruz, bearing N.W. by N. distant 6 miles. 10 a.m. anchored in Santa Cruz in 20 fathoms.
       
Fri. Jan. 3 At 10 a.m. weighed and set sail at 1 p.m. with a fresh breeze from the N.W.
       
Sat. Jan. 4 Fresh breezes and clear. Sun obscure.
       
Sun. Jan. 5 Brisk breezes and fair. Spoke the Sphinx from Gibraltar to ..... 10 days out. Lat. by Obser. 23 00' N.
       
Mon. Jan. 6 Fresh breezes and fair, sun obscure.
       
Tue. Jan. 7 Pleasant breezes throughout. Lat 17 14' N.
       
Wed. Jan. 8 Salt Island visible at 2 p.m. bearing S.W. distant 6 miles. At 6 p.m. saw Bonavista Island bearing S. W. by S. distant 11 miles. Lat 14 00' N.
